Andi R. Christopher is a writer of queer urban and contemporary fantasy. Their Charley Deacon series – stories of sea magic and self discovery – begins with “Tides of Magic” out January 2023. Pronunciation
If you think you know how to pronounce my name, you likely have it right.
Andi is pronounced like Andy or And – ee.
Christopher is pronounced the usual way it is in English, with a short i. Something like Krist – o -fuh.
Gendered terminology
I use they/them pronouns. If you are unfamiliar with these there is more information and examples at this pronouns.page site.
I ask that you simply use the correct pronouns without explanation, as you would for those with who use he or she. Eg “Andi R. Christopher based their most recent work on…” not “Andi R. Christopher who identifies as non-binary and uses the pronouns they/them based their most recent work on…”
Please use other gender neutral terminology as appropriate eg “person” rather than “man” or “woman”. I don’t generally use a title but if there’s a need for it I’m happy with Mx (pronounced mix or mux). I’m always happy to be referred to or addressed by my first name.
The best way to describe my gender is “non-binary“. I’m happy to be included in lists or groupings of “trans” or “gender diverse/divergent” people.
If you are writing an article but someone else will be writing photo captions I ask that you check in with them to ensure correct pronouns and other terminology are used.
Other identities
I also write as Andi C. Buchanan. The link is completely public, and you should feel free to connect the two if relevant. The different choices of name are purely to differentiate different types of writing.
Communication
Please contact me by email initially, and we can schedule a call if needed. Videoconferencing (eg Zoom) is easier for me than just audio so that is my preference where possible.
Events
I live just outside Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand. I enjoy doing panel talks and similar and am very open to in-person and online events.

I occasionally find myself in Australia (especially Melbourne), the US, and Europe (especially Germany). If you have a flexible in-person event (eg a weekly bookshop talk) but cannot fund travel, feel free to send me an “if you’re ever in the area” email and I’ll make a note of it.
Please note I can only speak English well enough for an event.
